CHCH Creative Arts Group¡¯s Visit to FGS South Island

On 11th November 2017, 12 members of Christchurch Creative Arts Group visited Fo Guang Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery Christchurch. They were welcome by gallery coordinator Vicky Han and volunteer Jack Liu.

The visitors were taken by Jack Liu for a tour of the unique entrance of FGS Temple that resembles ¡®Longmen Grottoes¡¯, the serene FGY Art Gallery and, the solemn Buddha Hall. They were also introduced to the ¡®4 Givings¡¯ concept expounded by Venerable Master Hsing Yun. Later, the visitors were each invited to pick the cards containing the ¡®Wise Words of Master Hsing Yun¡¯. On Master Hsing Yun¡¯s publication ¡®366 Days with Wisdom¡¯, an elderly couple claimed that they had the chance to read the book in a hotel during one of their excursions. Another visitor claimed to possess the book himself and said that he enjoyed how Master Hsing Yun was able to arouse her own inner wisdom while going through the facets of Buddhist teachings contained in the book, presented via simple life¡¯s philosophies and across religious boundaries.

Internaitonal Artist Keith Morant and Ceramic Artist Tricia Morant also came over to FGY Art Gallery to offer explanation to the ¡°Ringing True¡± Painting Exhibition and the ¡°Ceremica¡± Pottery Exhibition. The Artists struck accord with the visitors sharing with them their experiences on their works, their sources of inspiration and, the anecdotes behind many of their works. Many questions were thrown at Keith who took them in strike and answered accordingly. Keith revealed his reason for choosing the exhibition title as ¡°Ringing True¡±. This was to celebrate the discovery of his true artistic nature. Through the ¡°Ringing True¡± Exhibition, Keith hoped to ignite the innermost feeling and insight of every individual in his search for genuine inner peace.

Afterwards, the visitors and artists adjourned to the Water Drop Caf¨¦ to enjoy their lunch. Tour organiser Elaine thanked FGS for their hospitality. She said that this was the first visit to FGS for most of the group members. The moment they stepped through the main gate, they experienced peace and tranquillity as if they were in the ¡®Grotto¡¯. The visitors were full of praises for the delicious food served in the Water Drop Caf¨¦ and promised to bring their friends to visit FGS Temple.
