Chinese New Year Dharma Service

On 17th February 2018, coinciding with the 2nd day of the Chinese New Year, FGS South Island invited Venerable Abbess Manshin to preside over a Dharma function to bring New Year blessings to the public. Around 70 people comprised of devotees and members of BLIA South Island attended the function. Venerable Abbess started the Dharma session by first leading the congregation in the chanting of Medicine Buddha Mantra and this was followed by prostration to Medicine Buddha and the recital of Venerable Master Hsing Yuns A Prayer for Chinese New Year, blessing every individual, their families, the communities and the country, with peace and harmony.

Later in her sermon, based on the texts in seven kinds of spiritual wealth, Abbess elaborated to the congregation the 7 ways of spiritual Wealth creation, namely: 1) Confidence, one must possess the confidence to execute and complete the task, 2) Observing Precepts, one will gain the necessary strength if one observes the 5 precepts, 3) Listening, one should listen more to Dharma so as to acquire wisdom, 4) Repentance, by constantly repenting on ones mistake will one change for the better, 5) Being Remorseful, by constantly feeling remorseful and grateful to others, 6) Cleansing, one should remove ones bad habits from oneself, 7) Wisdom, one should make use of ones wisdom to develop ones limitless potential.

Besides those mentioned in seven kinds of spiritual, Venerable Abbess Manshin also pointed out 6 other Wealths recognized in Buddhism.
1) Healthy body,
2) Happy living,
3) Bright future,
4) Safety of family,
5) Lawful financial wealth, and
6) Positive inner strength.

At the end of the session, Venerable Abbess wished everyone a prosperous and peaceful Year of the Dog filled with abundant wisdom. For the record, on this day, around 200 people from Christchurch visited FGS South Island to enjoy the Chinese New Year festive atmosphere and to share in the good luck the Year of the Dog will bring.
