Allenvale School Students & Teachers gained Wisdom

Eleven students from the Room 14 Transition Class of Allenvale School with the lead of teachers Mhairi Joll, Leanne Keep and Helen Garden visited Fo Guang Shan (FGS) South Island in the morning of June 24 for a temple tour to gain more understanding about Buddhism and the building concepts of the temple.

Allenvale School is a school that provides education in a specialist setting with specialist trained teachers and therapists who are supported by competent teacher assistants. The school has excellent resources with a history of effectively meeting the pastoral and academic needs of its students.

The temple tour started with Fo Guang Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery Artistic Coordinator, See-Shen Lee guiding them into the history of FGS and the concepts of the building. In addition, the tour has been given an introduction of FGS international founder, Venerable Grand Master Hsing Yun and his artwork of One Stroke Calligraphy in the FGY Art Gallery. Continuing the tour, the group has also been introduced to the new Tea Area, the Time Corridor, the library, the Tin-Figurine room and also to the exhibition of The Chinese Traditional Dress C The QiPao.

Throughout the tour, with the guide of Buddhas Light International Association (BLIA) member, Ding Lihson, students and teachers of Allenvalle School were also brought into the Buddha Hall where they learned culture of how Buddhists have their blessings in the temple and the history of Buddhism. They too learned about the first teachings of Buddha on the 4 Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path of Buddhism moreover on the different realms in the Buddhist believes.

The tour then ended where everyone in the group had a nice and simple vegetarian meal at the Water Drop Cafe with a feeling of joy and wisdom gained in this temple tour.
