As people stopped buying cut flowers during the lockdown, sending ripple effects along the supply chains. The pandemic impacted floriculturist who grows and sell the cut flowers as shoppers prioritised food over Hydrangea. Hence, the FGY Art Gallery NZ Curator Abbess Manshin stressed the need for immediate support in action for floricultural products. In light of this, the hydrangeas were used at the Shrines for their tranquillity and elegance. The florals were also brought to Christchurch from Auckland to brighten the art gallery.
In early April 2022, the florals were revived and enhanced value by being arranged into nine ikebana artworks. The FGY Art Gallery Christchurch held a Chan Floral Arrangement Pop-up Exhibition showcasing the ikebana artworks. Within a week, many people have attracted to the pop-up exhibition, and over 250 people have voted for their floral arrangement. The floral exhibition became a topic of conversation between people and connected everyone’s heart.
As a further highlight, the Abbess specially created a floral arrangement to display in the reception of the Manukau East Police Station, as Snr Sgt Anson LIN hopes to bring warmth to the Station. Since then, the floral art has been praised by many people visiting the Station for its beauty and calming effect and mood-lifting ability.
Sculptor Paul Deans commented he like the colour of the Hydrangea. It was enjoyable and pleased to see the floral arrangement on the spot. Visitor Anchen appreciate the love and expression of the floral arrangements. The artistic and calming atmosphere make her want to stay longer in the gallery. Artist Dalton Strong expressed that the subtle colours and gentle contrast of the floral arrangement was very impressive. He was amazed by the beautiful display of art and culture in the gallery.
Medical Specialist Tim commented that the floral art directly enhanced the space and filled with the sense of beyond duality. Medical nurse Alice said that she felt joyful from the floral pieces and was able to imagine the happy moment during the floral arrangement. She was also amazed how the Curator supported the floriculturist and cherished their hard work.
Sub-Chapter President Annie Chang enjoyed the floral art’s simplicity and attractive appearance, feeling like it was glowing softly and demurely in the hallway. We are pleased to see many of the public thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated these flower arrangements that had extended to their maximum value.
