FGC Badminton Sports Night

On the 22nd of September 2022, Fo Guang Club held the sports night at Li-Ning Badminton Centre. It was an exciting yet fun-filled session. Despite the wild and windy weather, 7 Auckland YADs excitingly gather around for some exercise and interact with each other.

The sports night was a great session where the YADs could take a step back from stressful lifestyles and have a moment to breathe. Competitive and casual games were carried on with badminton rackets and shuttles. There were doubles and singles, with shuttles flying back and forth. As time ticked by, the courts were soon filled with tired muscles and sweaty bodies, but most importantly, it was filled with laughter and joy.

As the Temple has taught us, a single person can walk fast, but a group of people can walk far. Playing badminton not only keeps the body healthy but it requires teamwork to win the game. Moreover, Venerable Master Hsing Yun always encourage youth to cultivate good qualities and learn life lessons through sports. For example, players are able to work with others, be caring, considerate and so on once perfectly coordinated in the team.

Thomas expressed that he was distress after a long day of work and the sport night made him felt that it was not about winning the game but about being present with the team by not dwell in the past or future.

Meanwhile, Edwin heartfelt shared that playing badminton and our life are similar as it might not always smooth sailing. We sometimes stretch to hit our goals, dive on the floor to save the shuttle which is akin to saving a falling aspect in life. It is essential to juggle commitments, whether it be work, family, health, friends or spirit. However, one’s strength can be trained to master the tension, cope with life challenges, and be more resilient with the faith we hold in our mind. As a result, the bonds between Auckland YAD members were strengthens and comprehend the keys for a beautiful match after the event.
