On 1st July 2024, National Party List Member of Parliament from the New Zealand Prime Minister’s Office, Ms Nancy LU and Member of Parliament for Ilam in Christchurch, Dr Hamish Campbell, visited Fo Guang Shan Christchurch. They were warmly received by FGS NZ Abbess Manshin, Minister in Charge of FGS Christchurch Venerable Juexi, President of BLIA South Island Bernie SIEW, Deputy President James LOW, ZHANG Dong, Subchapter Senior Advisor CAO Qian and other BLIA members.
During the Temple tour, Abbess Manshin introduced the Temple’s construction design concept and led a blessing light offering. The guests were impressed to learn that the Temple was a gift from the Founder of FGS Buddhist Order Venerable Master Hsing Yun to the local community. The videos of the Chocolatte Festival and the 3G4G Festival of Cultural Sharing were played, which show the joy moment brought to the community during stressful times and enrich young people’s hearts with positive vibes.
Nancy LU congratulated Abbess Manshin on being awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit – MNZM on the King’s Birthday this year. She shared Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s sentiment on the importance of dedication and responsibility in relationships. Dr Hamish Campbell shared that this was his third visit to the Temple, including the recent Chocolatte Festival. They expressed their gratitude to the Temple for enriching community life and bringing a positive social impact to the people.
Abbess Manshin presented the distinguished guests with the BLIA NZ Activity Report. They expressed their intention to participate in Temple activities regularly. BLIA members in both the North and South Islands of New Zealand remain committed to serving the community through Education, Culture, Charity and Spiritual Cultivation, striving for social harmony for all.
