To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Founding of Fo Guang Shan, FGS Buddhist Temple Auckland joined the 16 May Global Sutra Transcription event. Led by Abbess Manshin of FGS NZ, more than 50 devotees reverently transcribed sutras while chanting the name of Amitabha Buddha, purifying their minds through cultivation. They also respectfully recited Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s A Prayer for Those Who Transcribe Sutras and Listen to the Dharma, dedicating the merits to world peace and the well-being of all people.
Abbess Manshin shared that the sutras are an important gateway to the path, and that transcribing scriptures of great wisdom in such a serene space is a precious blessing. Abbess praised BLIA members for realising the Buddha’s prajna wisdom and applying it in daily life. Abbess encouraged everyone to cherish the causes and conditions, cultivate diligently, and imprint the words of sages in their hearts through every verse and line, allowing the Dharma to guide their lives, purify their minds and inspire them to give back to society and build a harmonious community.
President Yulin KU of BLIA North Island shared that the Temple’s peaceful and beautiful environment allows body and mind to settle, thanks to the Abbess and the Temple team’s years of quiet dedication. She also expressed gratitude for Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s compassionate vows in establishing more than 300 Temples across five continents, giving people in New Zealand a spiritual home. She wished for the Right Dharma to remain forever, saying, May the Buddha’s light shine universally throughout the three thousand realms, and may the Dharma water flow endlessly across the five continents.
Third Subchapter President Anita CHU said that amid the noise of society, having this precious opportunity to settle the body and mind through sutra transcription was deeply moving. She shared that with gratitude and inspiration in one’s heart, one can realise that the Pure Land is not far away, but present here and now. Third Subchapter Advisor Peggy ZHAN expressed deep gratitude for the Venerable Master’s compassionate vows in founding Fo Guang Shan and propagating Humanistic Buddhism, and vowed to practise the ideals of Three Acts of Goodness and Four Givings in daily life.
Fourth Subchapter member Jennie shared that her first sutra transcription session brought her great peace and joy, and she hopes to continue joining such meaningful activities. Fourth Subchapter Advisor Veronica LEE said the hour of sutra transcription felt like entering a clear peaceful meditative state. She thanked the Temple for organising the global cultivation event, allowing everyone to practise with BLIA members worldwide, cultivate merits and blessings with every stroke, and dedicate the merits to society and their families.
