BLIA South Island Attended the 75th National Day Banquet Hosted by the Consulate General of PRC in Christchurch

On 27th Sept 2024, the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in Christchurch hosted the 75th National Day Banquet at The Great Hall Christchurch. About 300 guests from various sectors attended, including Christchurch Mayor Phil Mauger, MP Hamish Campbell, MP Vanessa Weenink, MP Megan Woods, Reuben Davidson and other distinguished guests.

Representatives of Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) South Island, President Bernie SIEW and Subchapter Elder Advisor Sally LIM, were present to congratulate the host.  President Bernie presented a scroll featuring Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s calligraphy to the Consulate on behalf of FGS Temple.

On 23rd September, Consul General Madame HE Ying attended a Dharma Talk given by FGS Head Abbot Most Venerable Hsin Bau at FGS Christchurch and had a pleasant conversation with the Head Abbot. At the banquet, the Consul General extended her warm welcome to BLIA committees.

In their speeches, Mayor Phil Mauger and several MPs praised China’s rapid development achievements and emphasized the importance of local cooperation in promoting economic growth and fostering cultural and interpersonal exchanges to enhance the friendship between the two nations. Both the guests and the host expressed their wish to carry out further collaboration to create a better tomorrow.

The atmosphere at the event was lively. A short video showcasing China’s rich cultural heritage and scenic beauty was played, followed by a photo exhibition and cultural experience activities, allowing guests to experience the unique charm of Chinese culture.
