The 2021 BLIA World Headquarters Virtual General Conference was held from 2nd to 4th October at the FGS Headquarters Kaohsiung, with the theme Wisdom & Innovation. The 3-days online conference gathered almost 20,000 people from 5 continents via Zoom. The conference was supported in 8 languages including Chinese, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean and more. There were more than 150 BLIA members from BLIA North and South Island NZ participated in the conference.
The opening ceremony started with the theme song Love and Peace in various languages, demonstrating the spirit of harmony and unity in the world. The founder of BLIA, Venerable Master Hsing Yun, recalled that since the founding of BLIA in 1992, it has expanded and blossomed around the world. It was a grand gathering for the annual World Conference, lets envision the great future for the BLIA. Venerable Master wished everyone is filled with joy and get inspired from the conference.
In the speech of the BLIA President, The Most Venerable Hsin Bau, he said that although the world has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic for two consecutive years, BLIA members have the spirit of compassion and joy of giving, such as distributing medical supplies around the world such as Taiwan, India, South Africa and more. On the other hand, the BLIA has also implemented projects such as T-Earth and Vege Plan A which contributed to global climate change and environmental protection to serve and care for the world step by step. He encouraged Buddhists to start with themselves and then influence others to bring peace to the world.
Major Resolutions for 2021 BLIA Virtual General Conference
- To respond to the General Conference theme “Wisdom and Innovation” which is based on Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s philosophy of Humanistic Buddhism, promoting the wholesome and beautiful concepts of Buddhism within the keynote speech through reading, lectures, and various activities to keep in step with time.
- To celebrate BLIA 30th Anniversary worldwide through photo and video exhibitions, “Talking about BLIA” etc., sharing testimonies of the development of Buddhism in the current era.
- To sustain environmental preservation activities, actively promoting tree-planting for reforestation, Vege Plan A, as well as energy saving and carbon reduction to mitigate global warming, hoping to reach the UN’s SDG targets for Climate Action.
- To actively participate in the “2022 Chan and Pure Land Virtual Light-offering Prayer Service,” praying for the early end of COVID through the efforts of pure cultivation and may all calamities can be eradicated.
- To sustain the promotion of “365 Days for Travelers – Wisdom from Chinese Literary and Buddhist Classics,” increasing translation of the book into various languages and gifting it to different hotels for calming the mind of travelers.
- To promote participation of the “2022 Global Buddhism Exam” for members, which is based on “Holding True to the Original Intent of Buddha” for an in-depth understanding of Humanistic Buddhism, enhancing faith and nurturing of BLIA members with right view and right understanding.
- To respond to the “2022 Global Sound of the Human World Virtual Creativity Contest” based on verses by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, encouraging young people in creating and singing songs of Buddhism to spread its beauty and wholesomeness.
- To promote the “Three Acts of Goodness Microfilm Contest,” encouraging young directors to inspire through movies the kindness and beauty within people’s minds, coming together to promote love and peace in the world.
- To confirm the 2022 BLIA 4th Meeting of the Seventh Board of Directors and 30th Anniversary Celebration to be held in October 2022, hosted jointly by BLIA North America Chapters.
