2022 FGS Auckland Neighbourhood Day & Classic Car Show

On 3rd September 2022, Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple Auckland held a Neighborhood Day, which bought thousands of people from the community together. There were many exciting activities, including an education booth from St John and the Fire & Emergency NZ, a Classic Car Show and local market stalls. The event brightened and brought warmth to the community.

Officers from the Police Department were also onsite to help the public install tamper-proof hex screws on their car plates. This was a kind initiative to help protect the community. St John participated in the event to educate the public in sharing the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and first aid knowledge. The Fire & Emergency team also prepared a mobile simulated disaster room to allow people of all ages to experience fire emergencies. This experience helped to raise the community’s safety awareness and taught them relevant emergency measures they can implement within their homes. The market stalls were rich in variety, and the delicious vegetarian food was popular amongst the public. The tour guide team conducted a range of Temple Tours which explained and gave insight to the function and stories of the Temple.

Another highlight of the event was the Classic Car Show. This was held by the Auckland Rover Car Club, Triumph Car Club, Austin Flying A Club and Alvis Car Club. The classic cars lined up in front of the green field, positioned in alignment with the ancient buildings of the Temple. This aesthetically pleasing presentation attracted a big crowd to take photos. Graeme, a member of The Triumph Car Club, said that he visited the Temple ten years ago to attend a friend’s wedding, and it was his honor and pleasure to bring his beloved car for a revisit. He also enjoyed answering questions to the public who were interested to learn about vintage cars.

The visitors expressed gratitude and appreciation to FGS Auckland for sharing the peaceful atmosphere, saying that they felt physically and mentally relaxed once they entered the Temple. Vendors of the market stall said that the event was very dynamic, and that they made many new friends during the event. They were grateful to be able to form good affinities with the community. The Temple wishes for all the visitors to be filled with boundless joy and kindness, and to unite for the construction of a harmonious society.
