In conjunction with the Inspiring Stitching Embroidery Exhibition held at Fo Guang Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery Christchurch, members of the Canterbury Embroiderers’ Guild hosted a special Embroidery Course at the Art Gallery on September 1, attracting 12 friends of FGY to participate. This Embroidery Course was led by Marie Meyer from the Canterbury Embroiderers’ Guild. The students came from all walks of life and came to sign up after learning about the event from FGY newsletter, and announcement on the Internet and social media.
Before the course began, Marie first carefully introduced to the students the tools required for embroidery and the correct ways to use them. She then proceeded to guide the students to start their embroidery creations step by step. Members of the Guild also stepped in to patiently provide guidance to help students embroider the patterns they love onto the templates.
Stephanie, a student who has just immigrated to New Zealand from abroad, hoped to integrate into the local community through activities. She would like to thank FGY Art Gallery for organizing such an interesting course to help her better understand the local culture in a warm environment. This was the second year that student Jenny had participated, as soon as enrolment started, she immediately signed up for the course.
Each student was given a beautiful embroidery tool kit. The students thanked the organizer for the arrangement. Marie expressed her praise for the students’ positive learning attitude, and thanked FGS Christchurch for providing such a beautiful venue, allowing the students to make their art piece in a quiet environment. Due to the overwhelming response to the course, a second session would be held on September 8, in order to spread aesthetic arts to every family and create a peaceful and happy community.
