FGS Auckland has been implementing the dress code for entering the Temple for the past few years, namely for men to wear long pants and for women to wear long pants or dresses. It is courtesy and respect for Buddhism， as well as the avoidance of the inconvenience of wearing too short when kneeling and worshipping the Buddha. Since the beginning of 2022, Temple officials have tightened the inspection process, for those who do not meet the dress code will not be permitted to enter.
Despite the hot summer weather, the regulation has gained the support, understanding, and cooperation of the public, with nearly 90% of 20,000 visitors dressed neatly in January and February. Volunteers will remind those who did not meet the dress code. Some of them changed their clothes and returned; others went to nearby stores to buy appropriate attire.
President of BLIA subchapter 1, Meggan, helps to check the dress code and vaccination pass of visitors at Main Shrine every weekend. Her heart was touched when some visitors apologized immediately for their inappropriate attire when they were refused entry. In this initiative, FGS Auckland hopes to strengthen public respect for the sacred place and tranquility of the Temple, beginning with one’s appearance.
