On the 4th of August 2022, Fo Guang Club (FGC) held the 17th Welcoming Day at the University of Auckland. FGC President Sinjun Choong and 18 University students attended the event, which included a Zoom session with Venerable NengChien and Venerable NengChang from FGS Auckland. Venerable encouraged them that despite going through tough times, it is always important to take good care of oneself to continue with greater achievements.
In addition, the session continued with a video introducing One Stroke Calligraphy of Venerable Master Hsing Yun. In his words, “May you look beyond my words and see my heart, because my heart has so much more to offer. The video exemplified the importance of persistence, Master Hsing Yun’s strong will to do things and his great determination.
BLIA YAD 1 committee Edwin introduced the Fo Guang Club, events and activities in the Temple. He shared that when one steps foot in the Temple, one can always feel the serenity, peacefulness, and calmness in the body, mind, and soul. It is a place for one to discover the Chan way of life and find the diamond within oneself. Meanwhile, Sin Jun also explained that with gardening, branches trimmed off are like correcting one’s bad habits. It helps with growth, and it helps to keep one on the correct path.
BLIA YAD 1 committee Thomas mentioned that keeping busy is nutrition and nourishment. The times while staying busy is an even crucial time for one to help others. BLIA YAD 1 committee Muyang shared his experience of courage, determination and perseverance in life. There are times when everything doesn’t go the way as hoped. We shall keep trying harder and live fearlessly, as one would never know unless they’ve tried.
The new FGC members appreciated the meaningful content prepared by the Temple Team. The inspirational session made them feel that If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. Today’s event struck every one of the participants in the room to have the courage to move forward and inspire them to be greater yet kinder people tomorrow. They were looking forward to the club’s activities, hopefully, can visit the Temple in the future to serve the community together.
