Saturday, 21 June eight BLIA members (five from the English Subchapter) took part in a tour guide training session by Jane Lee. Jane was the person originally responsible for the development of the tours of the Temple in 2003?. She shared her considerable practical experience with the trainees over a 4 hour session and provided them with updated tour guide handbooks.
A new presentation being developed for tour members was shown for the first time – “A day in the life of a monastic”, an excellent addition to the current Tai Chi, Calligraphy, Meditation, and Lotus Origami activities. More video and slide show presentations are being developed to enhance the existing activities and make the role of the tour guides easier to learn.
Jane finished the session by taking the trainees on a simulated tour as a demonstration. Having a larger number of English-speaking tour guides will be very helpful in increasing awareness among community groups and schools about the Temple and Buddhism.
