Under the leadership of Ms Fiona Hoggan, nine students from the Peeto Language School in Christchurch visited Fo Guang Shan, South Island, on 18th June. It was the first time for the nine students from Afghanistan, South Korea and China to visit a temple and they were all excited and looked forward to visiting the temple.
Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) member Juin mei guided everyone to visit the “Course of Existence” and “Liquidity in Motion” splashing art exhibitions, time corridor, main shrine and the library. The students were amazed at the fine art work of the museum, admired the ingenious design of the time corridor and felt inner peace in the quiet atmosphere of the main shrine.
Fiona said that the school often teaches students in a lively way, allowing students to learn local culture and knowledge more vividly. She will bring what she saw and heard during the day back to the classroom to discuss with the students. The students can review the previous knowledge and learn new things at the same time, later applying it in their daily lives. Some of the students took notes in the classroom, indicating their desire and earnest attitude towards study. The teachers of Peeto Language School have led students to the temple for extracurricular teaching many times before. The visits to the temple have become vivid teaching materials, and have also left a deep impression on the students.
