The Opening of Inspiring Stitching Exhibition at FGY Art Gallery

FGY Art Gallery Christchurch held an opening ceremony for the Christchurch Canterbury Embroiderers’ Guild’s Inspiring Stitching Exhibition on August 19. Distinguish Guests attended the exhibition included the Curator of FGY Art Gallery New Zealand, Venerable Abbess Mashin, Chairman of the Canterbury Embroiderers’ Guild, Diane, the Exhibition Coordinator, Marie Meyer, and nearly 100 people made up of members of the Canterbury Embroiderers’ Guild and members of BLIA South Island.

The Canterbury Embroiderers’ Guild has a history of nearly 56 years in Christchurch, and is committed to promoting knitting and handicrafts in the community. This time, 38 works by 21 members of the Guild were on display, 13 of which were from Guest Exhibitor Marianne Hargreaves. Together with other specially selected works, a total of 60 embroidery creations of diverse styles were on display.

In the speech of Abbess Manshin, praised the members of the Embroiderers’ Guild for their perseverance in their creative endeavours. Three of the works were collectively created by 30 members of the Embroiderers’ Guild. Just like the spirit of Oneness and Coexistence advocated by Venerable Master Hsing Yun. The FGY Art Gallery is an art platform for cultural exchanges and the FGS Temple all over the World provide places to recharge one’s body and soul, thanks to Venerable Master for the precious gift to local communities.

Diane and Marie, representatives of the Embroiderers’ Guild, were very grateful for the support of the Art Gallery to allow members to have the opportunity to display their works in such beautiful and elegant space. They were also grateful to the sponsors and colleagues who assisted in setting up the Exhibition. At the opening ceremony, Abbess Manshin was invited to present awards to outstanding artists, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony was also held.

After the opening ceremony, the attendees expressed their appreciation for the dedication and exquisite craftsmanship of the participating artists, and took the opportunity to interact with one other.
