Royal NZ Police College Wing 261’s Visit to FGS Temple North Island

Under the leadership of Asian Public Relations Officer, Constable Kevin Deng, 8 members of Royal NZ Police College Wing 261 visited Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple North Island on 30th August. Their arrival was well-received by Abbess Manshin, who is also the patron of Wing 261, Venerable Ru Lian, other venerables and BLIA members.

A BLIA member, Nick, led the police officers to visit the “Wood-firing Ceramics Exhibition” by artist Huang Da An and “Rhythm of the World Paintings and Ceramics” by Keith and Tricia Morant. Nick’s engaging explanations had sparked their interest in art exhibitions organised by Fo Guang Shan and strengthened their understanding in multiculturism.

Abbess Manshin led the police officers to do a walking meditation around Lumbini Garden. They enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere around the temple and they have learned on how to talk to their inner-self. Subsequently, the police officers did an outdoor sitting meditation above the wooden platform at the pagoda, with the background music of water flowing down from the top. Abbess Manshin adjusted the meditation postures of the police officers and taught them on the actual way to monitor and regulate their breathing, so that their hearts and bodies could connect naturally with the nature.

The police officers claimed that their hearts and souls have been purified via the short meditation sessions in a peaceful environment and they did appreciate this wonderful experience. Abbess Manshin introduced various activities that have been organised by the temple since the temple was founded to the police officers. Abbess Manshin also expressed her gratitude to NZ police for their close collaborations with the temple with the aim to build a peaceful and safer community in New Zealand.
