New Zealand Police Wing 337 visited FGS Temple

On 23rd June, New Zealand Police Wing 337 visited FGS Temple for culture education. The group was led by Counties Manukau District Inspector Chris Barry, Senior Sergeant Anson Lin, Asian Liaison officer Mr Justin Zeng and Constable Kevin Deng, Constable John Book and many more. Abbess Manshin, Minister in Charge Venerable Rulian and BLIA members warmly welcome the group.

The Event Manager of the Temple Nick Yoong, guided the group for a temple tour and then led them to the Pagoda for a prayer for Constable Matthew Dennis Hunt who lost his life whilst on duty on 19th June. Abbess Manshin, who is also the Patron of Wing 261, led the prayer, wishing for the deceased to be at peace and free from suffering. Abbess acknowledged the Police Officers for praying for the deceased to comfort the soul.

On behalf of the team, Inspector Chris Barry appreciated the thoughtful arrangement by the Temple, especially the calming Buddhist Prayer for the late Police Officer. He mentioned that the shooting incident which happened last Friday was indeed tragic, but the responsibility of the Police is to be at the frontline to protect the community. This is a very honourable yet challenging career. He wished the new police officers all the best.

Senior Sergeant Anson shared that having a plaque for the deceased and the prayer is an important ceremony in Buddhist culture to pay respect to the deceased. He acknowledged that the death of Constable Hunt is a big loss for NZP. He encouraged the police officers to face challenges with courage and reassured them that the seniors will help everyone to improve along the way, and working together to serve the community.
During the visit, Wing 337 watched the temple event’s video. Abbess appreciated the continuous support given by New Zealand Police, in working together to build a harmonious community, by spreading the message of Three Act of Goodness and Four Givings through various events. For example, 3G4G Festival of Cultural Sharing, 366 Days with Wisdom Books Giving Project, 2019 Embracing Love & Peace Concert and many more. These have spread the seeds of kindness and wisdom to the community.

Asian Liaison officer Justin Zeng came to visit the team despite the busy schedule. He expressed the New Zealand Police is always grateful toward the support given by the Temple in the last 20 years. Especially during the 2011 Christchurch Earthquake, FGS Temple provided a space for police to work, besides giving free hot food to the public, the temple also supported NZ Police in different ways.

The Police Officers enjoyed the culture visit and appreciated the arrangements by the Temple, which allow them to experience different culture. They were also impressed by the services provided to the community by FGS.
