U3A Art Appreciation Visited Traditional Chinese Painting Exhibition by Professor Kuo

Helen Harkness, member of U3A Art Appreciation, Christchurch had attended the opening of Traditional Chinese Painting Exhibition by Professor Kuo in Fo Guang Yuan Art Gallery Christchurch and was amazed by the landscape of Chinese painting artworks. She attended the art gallery opening with two other members on 14 August and received great hospitality by Louisa Kuo.

Louisa Kuo, the daughter of Professor Kuo, personally explained the painting experienced and the inner meaning of Professor Kuo’s artwork. The visitors were admired by Professor Kuo’s painting and complimented that delicate painting skills are well presented in the fine simple artworks. Besides that, Professor Kuo’s artwork had expressed his majestic aura and presenting his deep thoughts which were filled with rich life experiences. They were admired and envy by the tranquillity lifestyle of the characters in the painting, giving them an urge to be in it, leaving the hustle bustling city. They also mentioned that thru observation every painting had presented with a special conception reflecting the meaning behind every painting which makes it very interesting. In addition, the artworks were combined with marvellous ikebana which makes it a perfect harmonious combination providing a solemn atmosphere to all visitors.

Jane Dobson mentioned that she had seen these artworks while she were travelling in China, however she did not understand the meaning of those beautiful paintings back then. Jane said she finally understood the profound meaning of the artworks with todays’ in-depth guided tour by Louisa.The visitors expressed their joy of this visit which had benefitted them and will share the experience with other members hoping they would have the opportunity to appreciate the national standards of traditional Chinese painting exhibition.
