Chinese School

Fo Guang Chinese School (North Island) New Zealand was founded 13 years ago with 25 students. Today, it has expanded to more than 20 classes consisting of about 300 students. Subjects taught include Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Pre-school Chinese, Adult Chinese, Mathematics, Finger Arithmetic and Drawing. Parents has confidence with the teaching expertise of the Fo Guang Chinese School as they see their children improve in the respective subjects learnt.

Venerable Master Hsing Yun had  always emphasized on education with the vision to propagate Buddhist teachings through cultural activities and foster talent through education. The present new facility of the Fo Guang Chinese School possesses an excellent learning environment for children. Curriculum organized jointly by Fo Guang Shan (North Island) temple, BLIA (North Island) and Fo Guang Chinese School include Recitation contest, Pearls of Wisdom Reading Competition, Kite Painting contest during Moon Cake Festival, Coloring Competition, Performances (dancing and singing) and many other activities have made the learning fun and interesting.

With the joint efforts of the temple, BLIA and “Caring Parents” (parents who voluntarily help at the school), Fo Guang Chinese School is able to nature the children with its enhanced structure and are able to continue to carry on the traditional Chinese culture.
