Embarking on the 2025 Oceania White Elephant Online Training Igniting Wisdom and Strength

On 15th February, the 2025 Oceania White Elephant Online Training, organised by the BLIA Young Adult Division Auckland, officially commenced. The online opening ceremony welcomed over 70 participants from Oceania, the Philippines and North America, with guidance from Chief Abbess Manko of FGS Oceania, Abbess Manshin of FGS NZ, Abbess MiaoJing of FGS Philippines, guiding venerable and BLIA members from various regions.

Chief Abbess Manko encouraged participants to embrace challenges with resilience, emphasising that difficulties are stepping stones to success. She reminded them of the Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s teaching: I am a Buddha, inspiring participants to seize opportunities with gratitude and take responsibility with courage.

The online training is scheduled for four weeks, allowing participants to explore the Threefold Training – Precepts, Meditative Concentration and Wisdom, through classes and panel discussions. In the first session, BLIA North Island Chapter Secretary Malcolm Wang, introduced the Venerable Master’s Three Acts of Goodness and Four Givings (3G4G), emphasising that the essence of Humanistic Buddhism lies in its practical application. He explained that by performing good deeds, speaking good words and thinking good thoughts, one can purify oneself while benefiting others, integrating Buddhist practice into daily life.

During the panel discussion, youth leaders AnnJo Chong and Edwin Teoh shared their experiences of practising the 3G4G. AnnJo shared that the Temple provides a platform for young people to grow; particularly, serving at the Temple has helped her cultivate attentiveness and enhance team efficiency. Edwin stated that practising the 3G4G has strengthened his resilience, enabling him to face adversity with wisdom and a positive mindset.

To conclude, participants sang The 3G4G Song, composed by Jenny Chen, President of the BLIA New York Chapter. The song affirms participants’ commitment to self-transformation and inspires others to create a harmonious society.
