On 3rd April 2025, nine School Community Officers from the Manukau East Police Station, led by Senior Constable Matt Green, gathered at Fo Guang Shan Auckland to discuss ways to address and prevent a series of recent critical issues affecting schools. Abbess Manshin of FGS NZ attended the meeting to express her concern about the challenges faced by today’s youth and participated in the discussions.
During the meeting, several key topics were addressed, including proposals for improving road safety in front of schools in Auckland, the impact of the British web series on raising societal awareness of youth issues, and Australia’s plans to implement restrictions on social media usage for individuals under 16 by the end of the year. New Zealand also intends to monitor this development and potentially follow suit. Additionally, the meeting discussed the importance of enhancing regulations for platforms such as AI, social media and online gaming to prevent criminals from exploiting these technologies to target young people.
The Temple provided hearty vegetarian meals, making the attendees feel welcome on a chilly morning. Snr Cons Green expressed his gratitude to the team for their thoughtful arrangements, which contributed to the smooth meeting. The officers also shared their excitement for the upcoming annual 3G4G Festival of Cultural Sharing, set to take place in May. Both the important parties have maintained a longstanding partnership to promote the 3G4G values, which is good deeds, good words and good thoughts among teachers and students within local society, aiming to guide young people toward a positive and constructive outlook on life.
