Expressions of Interest – acquisition and relocation to another site
Expressions of interest are sought from
interested persons or organisations for
the acquisition, removal and relocation of Baverstock Cottage from its present location behind the Buddhist Temple to another site (preferably located in the Botany, Clevedon, Manukau or Flat Bush area).
Baverstock Cottage was originally a
school serving the area and opened in 1875, on another nearby site. It was moved in 1893 to its present site. The building is consideredto typify early colonial architecture and because of this and its historic association with the area, it is protected by Manukau City
Council as an historical building under the Councils District Plan.
As a result, the current owner is prepared to give the house to a suitable person or organisation at no cost. However, the costs that would need to be meet by the person or organisation who is accepting the building would be the relocation and up-grading costs, approximately $80,000 based on past estimations. Apart from the above-mentioned cost, we would also invite the interest parties to share 50% of the Resource Consent Fees,Planner Fees etc (amount to be advised prior to the Consent Application).
There is good access to the Cottage so its removal from the site would not pose any problems. The cottage could be adapted to and used for a variety of purposes, such as an artist’s studio, residence, office, cafe, shop, museum etc. It might also be used as club rooms for an interest group or association. It
would be of a particular interest to those keened in early colonial architecture or seeking to provide
accommodation for a business that stands out as being different to their
competitors.
For those wishing to explore this opportunity further, please contact
Mr. Anders Chong, who will be please to show any interested party the Cottage and can also make available a Conservation Plan which provides a considerable amount of information on it. All submission of interest please send to below contact details before July 15, 2008.
