Rejoicing in the Full Moon Blessing Ceremony of Baby Dao Xin

On 5th December 2020, Fo Guang Shan (FGS) South Island hosted a Full Moon Blessing Ceremony for Dao Xin Low, the baby girl of James Low and Pei Yi. James Low is the Vice President of Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) South Island, and Pei Yi is a member of the 3rd subchapter of BLIA South Island. The Blessing Ceremony was presided by FGS New Zealand Abbess Venerable Manshin and FGS South Island Minister-in-charge Venerable Jue Xi and attended by 60 people, consisted of Professor Shiau T.N and wife, Taiwan Overseas Chinese Affairs Commissioner Dr Alex Fu, President of New Zealand-China Exchange Incorporated Mr Steven Ma and wife, President of Taiwan HuaShing Association Mr Dai, President of New Zealand Zhong hua Chinese Society Madame Wendy Zhang and husband, and BLIA South Island members.

The ceremony started with Abbess Manshin leading the gathering in chanting the Heart Sutra and reciting the Prayer for New Born Baby, wishing for the baby to grow up in a safe and healthy environment, and seeking Buddha’s blessing to allow her to become a patient, diligent, courageous and confident girl who is prepared to face challenges and tests in life. At the Blessing Ceremony, Abbess presented the baby with a gift. On his part, James distributed red tortoise cakes and snacks to the attendees to thank them for their participation. Throughout the length of the Blessing Ceremony, the baby was quiet and well-behaved as if enjoying the blessings from the Buddha and the people around.

James and Pei Yi were married in November last year at a Buddhist Ceremony in FGS Temple South Island. After a lapse of a year, they were blessed to be able to bring their new born baby Dao Xin back to the Temple to receive Buddha’s blessings. The name Dao Xin, meaning Joy and Happiness, was chosen by Abbess Manshin to wish the baby growing up in a happy way. It was indeed a pleasure for FGS South Island members to witness the marriage of Pei Yi and James, and the birth of their second generation. Everyone sincerely wished this Buddhist family abundance of happiness.

James has been a member of BLIA South Island for more than ten years and is presently holding the post of Vice President; whereas Pei Yi was a member of BLIA North Island and a volunteer teacher for Chinese School in 2017. Pei Yi later moved to Christchurch and joined BLIA South Island as a member of 3rd Subchapter. She has discharged whatever tasks assigned to her dutifully, and, together with other members, is actively involved in baking activities. Pei Yi and James are forever eager and ready to contribute towards BLIA South Island’s activities, and they have established close friendships with BLIA members. Now that they have formed a happy family, the senior BLIA members are eager to share with them advices on the caring of baby so that they will be less stressed caring for the baby and hopefully with whatsoever time left, can continue to serve the Temple.
