“A little girl walked into the garden of her grandparents and was greeted by the presence of many beautiful and colourful flowers.” Immediately, she was attracted to, and felt the life forces emanated from, these flowers and this experience then became her source of inspiration and opened the door to her love for ‘Flower Painting’. This was how Christchurch painter Sarah Deans started her journey on Flower Painting.
On 2nd September 2018, Sarah Deans held a sharing session with Christchurch art lovers at Fo Guang Yuan (FGY) Art Gallery Christchurch. 30 participants attended the session. Meanwhile Sarah’s “Flower Portraits” Oil Paintings Exhibition is on at same Art Gallery from 21st July to 12th October 2018.
In her talk, Sarah Deans gave a lively narration of her journey she went through in her painting of Flower Portraits. She also explained to the audience the meaning behind each painting. As for the subjects of her painting, Sarah always chose the flowers found in the local environments. The audience were very much captivated by the inexplicable affinities found between Sarah and the flowers and often burst into laughter as Sarah told her stories.
After the talk, the audience spent some time appreciating the paintings. They were full of praises for the lifelike flower portraits painted and expressed the views that the painted portraits were simple and not pompous, which made them pleasing to look at. Some of the audience found rhythm and positive life force emanated from the flower portraits; some experienced warmth from the colours of the flowers and some could even smell the fragrances of the flowers!
Sarah Deans wished that, through the natural beauties captured by the colours and shapes of the Flower Portraits, positive energy will be generated, bestowing mankind with blissfulness.
