One Million Heart Sutras in the Buddha

There is to be a Heart Sutra copying ceremony at Fo Guang Shan North Island New Zealand Buddhist Temple, in the Main Shrine on 1st January 2010 (Friday) and 4th April 2010 (Sunday).

The Sutras will be sent to Taiwan where they will be stored, with one million copied sutras from around the world, in a Buddha statue in the Buddha Memorial Centre where they will be locked away for one hundred years, together with the very special Buddhist relic.

The relic, one of Buddha’s teeth, is an extraordinary gift given by Venerable Master Rinpoche of Tibet to Venerable Master Hsing Yun, founder of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order. Venerable Master Hsing Yun was chosen to look after this illustrious relic because of his great knowledge, practice and contribution he has made to Buddhism over the years.

Copying the Heart Sutra contributes to world peace and also to personal happiness. If participants would like to transfer merit to family or friends they can do so by writing the names of transferees on their Sutra.

There is a charge of $50 per set, and this includes your own calligraphy pen and specially designed Heart Sutra parchment that will last for over one hundred years. Proceeds from this ceremony will contribute towards the Buddha Memorial Centre construction fund.

Everyone is very welcome to participate in this is an extremely rare and auspicious event that shouldn’t be missed.
