On 13th June 2026, Fo Guang Shan South Island and BLIA South Island New Zealand held the 7th Chocolatte International Food Festival, bringing warmth and blessings to the Christchurch community during the winter season. Guided by FGS NZ Abbess Manshin and led by BLIA South Island President James LOW, the festival featured more than 20 local stalls. Dr Hamish Campbell, MP for Ilam, joined nearly 1,500 visitors in enjoying coffee, chocolate, international cuisine and the festival’s welcoming atmosphere.
Abbess Manshin warmly welcomed Dr Hamish Campbell and introduced the 3G4G Festival of Cultural Sharing, the origin of the Chocolatte International Food Festival and the special exhibition of 60 Years of Passing the Lamp, Honouring a 100-Year Legacy. Dr Campbell thanked FGS for its longstanding service to the local community and praised the temple for bringing people together while providing valuable cultural and educational opportunities for Christchurch residents.
The festival featured a wide variety of attractions, including SHE Chocolate, a chocolate fountain with fresh fruit, French and Chinese desserts, handcrafted dried flower bouquets and natural handmade soaps. The Christchurch Accordion Orchestra delighted visitors with lively performances, and everyone joined in singing Happy Birthday for one of its members, creating a joyful atmosphere.
Coffee enthusiasts also enjoyed a coffee appreciation session presented by David PAI, founder of Coffee Embassy, learning how to recognise different coffee flavours through tasting and demonstrations. Cultural performances, including guzheng music, Dunhuang dance and Tai Chi demonstrations, added to the festive atmosphere.
Dr Patterson Stark, an internationally recognised expert in Lifestyle Medicine with more than 45 years of clinical experience, presented a well-attended health seminar. Drawing on his personal journey and professional expertise, he shared practical insights on healthy longevity, slowing the ageing process and enhancing the body’s resilience. He also presented signed copies of his book Live Now, Die Later to participants.
The temple also prepared variety of gifts for visitors. Nearly 850 copies of Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s Dharma Words were distributed, while many visitors copied the Master’s teachings in the Main Shrine and received Manjushri Bodhisattva blessing cards.
Abbess Manshin presented Dr Hamish Campbell and all participating stallholders with commemorative Year of the Horse keychains bearing the blessing, Harmony and Co-existence, Galloping Towards Success. Abbess encouraged everyone to practise kindness, broaden their hearts and work together in harmony to build a more peaceful world.
Many stallholders expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the festival. Besides selling many of their products, they experienced the warmth of the event and looked forward to returning next year.
